Rich Tommaso

Rich TommasoRich Tommaso is the author of such comics as Clover Honey, The Horror Of Collier County, 8 ½ Ghosts, and the very controversial, Perverso! He has been published by Fantagraphics Books, Top Shelf, and Dark Horse Comics.

Rich Tommaso was born in Englewood, N.J. in 1970. A place he struggles to portray in his comics to this day. He attended The Joe Kubert School Of Cartoon And Graphic Art in 1989. After dropping out of that trade school in 1990, he decided to self-publish mini comics as a gateway into the professional world of comic book publishing. He achieved this only after 4 years in 1993 with the publication of his first 3 issue mini series, Cannibal Porn published by Eros Comics. Since then, he has penned a dozen original comics and graphic novels, working for various publishers including: Fantagraphics Books, Dark Horse Comics, Top Shelf Productions, Chronicle Books, Hyperion Books For Children, Boom!town and Alternative Comics. In 2009, his books were translated into two languages : Spanish (Ediciones La Cupula) and French (Editions Ca Et La).

In 2012, his newest graphic novel, The Cavalier Mr. Thompson saw print in not only the U.S. but also in France, Spain, Italy and Serbia respectively. His works have been favorably reviewed in Publisher’s Weekly, SPIN, CBG, Wizard, New York Times Book Review and The Comics Journal. His last graphic novel with writer James Sturm, Satchel Paige: Striking Out Jim Crow, received great praise by The New York Times and in 2008 won him an Eisner award for Best Reality-Based Work. He resides in Atlanta, Georgia with his girlfriend, Amy and their two cats, Maggie and Hopey.
