It took a little
patience, but this comic book from Jon Lewis grew on me. There are three
stories in this issue, and "Weird Steed" was the one that won me over.
The story is be Leo Geistler, illustrations by Jon. It's a tale of childhood
imagination, that's touched with fond sentimentality. "Springing (A Society
Farce)" is a humorous look at a collection of roomates (a deluded lovesick
writer, a smoking artist, a non-smoking gas station attendant, a freeloader,
a sci-fi geek and a stoner). The other story is a wacky story involving
a lot of Norwegian folklore. The art and story complement each other well.
There's one particularly memorable drawing of the minister's wife on page
21 and the cover would have been great for the drinking-themed issue of
Amusing Yourself To Death (that's #4, in case you missed
it). Jon also includes a section of letters and of things he likes. Recommended
for readers with a hankering for the offbeat.
